read this if you don't feel like it.
the truth about discipline, over-prioritizing leisure, and zoning in on what matters.
Sometimes I really don’t feel like it.
It being anything in the moment that I need to do, but would rather not. Recording content, cleaning, writing a newsletter, reviewing finances, hopping on a meeting, going to the gym, cooking, etc. Ya know, the important stuff.
Have you realized that most of the things we don’t feel like doing are the things we need to do? For once, I just want binge watching Forever on Netflix with some truffle popcorn in my fave comfy sweats to be the thing that catapults my life.
I don’t know who came up with the phrase, “when you do what you love, it won’t feel like work.” Chile, bye. It still does. Because when what you love turns into what you do, it just becomes work you love. But still… work.
And if you're anything like me (a woman in her 30s, navigating business, content creation, and now new motherhood) "not feeling like it" becomes a near-daily mantra.
And still, we have to show up.
This is for the woman who has a vision. A business idea. A brand to build. A career to grow. A purpose bubbling beneath the surface. And yet, she's stuck in the tug-of-war between Netflix and her next chapter. Between scrolling and strategy. Between "I'll do it tomorrow" and the version of her who is already doing the dang thang.
Here's the harsh truth…
Discipline isn't something you wait to feel. It's something you do despite how you feel.
Somewhere along the way, we started believing that rest was the answer to every, "I don't feel like it." And listen, as a new mom, I will be the first to say: rest is vital. It's healing. But rest isn't the opposite of work. It's what refuels the work. Rest shouldn't become a hiding place from what we know we're meant to do.
There’s a difference between true rest and procrastination dressed in your fave sweats.
When we constantly choose leisure over purpose, we’re not recharging… we're retreating. And what we think is balance is often just avoidance in disguise.
So what do we do when we don’t feel like it?
We remember the why. We zoom in on what matters. We stop resisting the necessary needle-movers, and actually start leaning into the things we don’t feel like doing. Maybe that means finally not pressing snooze (whew!). Editing the video. Writing the caption. Sending the email. Going to the event and sparking a convo with someone you don’t know. Taking the walk. Saying the prayer. Doing the rep.
It means keeping the promises we make to ourselves.
You don’t need to overhaul your life in a day. In fact, you shouldn’t. All that will do is exhaust your brain (and your body). Then you’ll crash right back to where you are. Trust me, I’ve tried so many times. The thing I’ve learned works the best is making small promises that I know I can keep. Micro changes that build my confidence and momentum. Not even tryinggg to do it all at once, but doing a little bit every day. Watch how fast those choices compound.
So if you’re waiting for it to feel easy, you’ll wait forever. Let’s normalize building something meaningful and feeling resistance along the way. The friction isn’t failure. It’s proof that you’re stepping into something bigger.
So here’s a challenge for you (and me):
For the month of June, let’s finish Q2 strong with the "Main Thing Challenge."
Every day, you’ll commit to doing one intentional task that directly aligns with your goals—whether it’s content creation, business, wellness, or personal development.
Below is your daily roadmap. Save it, share it, print it, or pin it somewhere visible. Each day has a purpose-driven focus to keep you aligned, clear, and moving forward:
I’m excited to build momentum together and cheer each other on.
The life we want is on the other side of procrastination.
We don’t have time to waste. But more importantly, we don’t have purpose to waste.
Let’s get to it.
You in?
In love & creativity,
Erin xx
