I’m pregnant. And here’s how I really feel about it.
As an ambitious woman who’s not ready for life to “slow down.”
On December 11, 2023, I found out I was pregnant.
I did not have the typical excited reaction.
I was stuck. Baby, and when I say stuck, I mean stuck.
I felt overwhelmed thinking about how much could change. From my priorities, to my body, my marriage, and my overall life.
We weren’t trying. But we weren’t…not trying. So it caught me off guard a little.
In the moment, I was mourning what was. Because when I saw “Pregnant” on that test, I realized my life has already changed forever.
I snapped out of it and ordered prenatal vitamins, made a doctor’s appointment, and tried to let the news settle in a bit.
I wasn’t mad or ungrateful. I was just overwhelmed at the idea of stepping into a completely new chapter…and pushing a whole baby out lol.
Check out this episode of our Sips of Success Podcast, where we explain our reactions to finding out and our experience through the first trimester.
A few days later, the excitement started to kick in. I started shifting my mind from mourning what was, to anticipating what’s to come.
So, here are the four most encouraging mindset shifts I’ve made since finding out I’m pregnant.
1. You were built for this.
God created you to bear children and to be a mother. Your capacity will increase. Your body and heart will expand. You are mentally and physically fit for this experience.
2. You and your person created a beautiful life together.
There’s no one I love more than my husband. And the fact that I am blessed to carry a child we both made, has made me more in love with him and super excited to be his baby mama. Ha!
3. Life does not stop once you have a baby.
I’m ambitious. I love owning a business. I love traveling. I love being busy living my life fully. I love doing all the things that people say will “slow down” once you have kids. Honestly, those projections instilled nuggets of fear into me. But we made a decision that our baby will motivate us to go even further and harder in pursuit of the life we want. The best advice I’ve heard is that your baby will adapt to your life. And your baby will appreciate being raised by fulfilled parents.
4. Life has the potential to get even better.
Change can be scary. But scary doesn’t necessarily mean bad. Some of the most amazing experiences of my life were scary first. But once I leaned into them, I couldn’t imagine my life without them. Even though life was so so sweet before I found out that I’m pregnant, I’m expecting life to only get sweeter.
Can you believe I’m about to be somebody’s mama?!
Simply put, this is the biggest blessing and I’m so grateful for this little baby that I haven’t even met yet. I’m 18 weeks: can’t stop eating, burp nonstop, pee all day, and I’m starting to feel little flutters! I wouldn’t trade it. Thank you, Jesus.
Feel free to drop some words of encouragement in the comments to me, or any other moms/moms-to-be who are tackling life, business, and motherhood.
In love & creativity,
Erin
